Jennie J. Kramer, MSW, LCSW

Director and Founder 

Jennie Kramer specializes in the treatment of Eating Disorders through the use of  individual, group, family and/or psychotherapy and maintains practices in both NYC and in Scarsdale, NY. She also treats patients who do not have eating disorders for anxiety, depression and the struggles of everyday life. Ms. Kramer served as the Director of the Renfrew Centers for Eating Disorders in NYC and in NJ for 5 years and serves on their Advisory Board. Prior to entering this field, Ms. Kramer served as C.O.O. for Dr. Robert Atkins and was a healthcare management consultant to many prestigious clients in the fields of integrative/complementary/alternative medicine, nutrition and other fields of medicine and surgery.

Ms. Kramer received her M.S.W. from Fordham University, Summa Cum Laude and her BSW from Adelphi University Magna Cum Laude, LCSW. She also received additional training from Minuchin Family Therapy Seminars, REBT, DBT and CBT Courses & Landmark Education Leadership Institute. She serves on the Board of The Westchester Group Psychotherapy Society (WGPS) and enjoys membership and affiliation with organizations such as The National Eating Disorders Assoc. (NEDA), The Academy for Eating Disorders (AED), The Binge Eating Disorders Associations (BEDA), The American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA), The National Association of Social Work (NASW), New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS), The NY State Society for Clinical Social Work and The American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

Dr. Cheryl Appel, FAAP, MD

Medical Advisor 

Dr. Appel is board certified Pediatrician specializing in adolescent and young adult medicine with special areas of expertise in eating disorders, school-based problems, learning disabilities, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse recovery. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Medical Director of the Andrus Children’s Center in Yonkers, NY.

Dr. Appel has over 25 yrs of experience coordinating the special needs of children, adolescents and young adults with teams of other health professionals and school staffs. Dr. Appel has spoken widely in schools around Westchester about sexual behavior, high risk behavior, mental health issues and recognizing the early signs of mental disorders. She maintains a private practice in Scarsdale, NY and also volunteers with OneChildAfrica in Namibia Africa finding solutions for recovery from multiple complex trauma in the child and adult population.

Dr. Tara Brass, M.D. Psychiatric Advisor (Adolescent / Adult)


Dr. Tara Brass graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and earned her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. She completed her Psychiatry residency at The Mount Sinai Medical Center where she received extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. She worked as a staff psychiatrist at The Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders in New York and later became the Medical Director of Columbus Park Collaborative eating disorders center in NYC. Her specialties are in the areas of mood, anxiety and eating disorders. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, The Academy of Eating Disorders and The National Eating Disorders Association.

Dr. Kathryn Moss, M.D., Psychiatric Advisor (Adult)


Dr. Moss is board certified in both psychiatry and in forensic psychiatry. She is on the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College and is an attending physician at Weill Cornell Medical Center, Payne Whitney Westchester Division. Dr. Moss received her medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and completed her psychiatry residency at NY Presbyterian Hospital and a fellowship at New York University Medical College. 

Dr. Moss maintains a private practice in NYC and in Scarsdale.  She is certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and has particular expertise in treating trauma as well as personality disorders and eating disorders. She has also served on The Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders Advisory Board.


Erin Cohen, MSW, LCSW-R

Individual, Family and Group Psychotherapist

 

Erin Cohen specializes in the treatment of eating disorders and has clinical experience in individual, family and group therapy. She received her BSW from SUNY Stony Brook and her MSW from New York University’s Advanced Standing Program.

Ms. Cohen worked and trained at Peninsula Counseling Center on Long Island, Staci Leavitt Mind & Body, Inc on Long Island, and The Renfrew Center of New York as a psychotherapist before establishing a private practice in NYC. She is currently a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Golden Key National Honor Society and The National Eating Disorders Association.

Laura Kleinman, MSW, LCSW,

Individual, Family and Group Psychotherapist

Ms. Kleinman has both post masters fellowship and years of clinical experience in the treatment of Eating Disorders. Laura earned her MSW from Simmons College School of Social Work and has additional training in the treatment of Trauma through the VA, Eating Disorders at Allied Professional Treating Eating Disorders, DBT, CBT, Adlerian and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. She also has a background in Creative Arts and Experiential Therapies and  integrates interpersonal, creative, narrative, cognitive-behavioral, and dialectical behavior therapy techniques, tailored to fit the needs of each patient.

Irene S. Miller, LCSW, CASAC

Individual, Family and Group Psychotherapist

 

Ms. Miller received specialized training at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Westchester Division in Systems Family Therapy and the Maudsley Method for eating disorders and also worked on a team of therapists in an international NIH-funded study investigating family therapies for eating disorders. 

Irene is Level II EMDR therapist and also has over 30 years’ experience using Solution-Focused and Brief Motivational Therapy in substance abuse prevention/early intervention programs. She is an Adjunct Instructor in the Dept. of Social Work at Iona College & The College of New Rochelle, NYS OASAS Approved Impaired Driver Provider and a consultant to the Westchester Family Court PEACE Program for parents in divorce and custody litigation.

Marjorie Nolan, MS, RD, CPT,CDN, HFS-ACSM

Ms. Nolan is a National Spokesperson for The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the premiere resource for science-based nutrition information. Ms. Nolan's professional background includes working for the Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders and having taught nutrition and fitness at The National Personal Training Institute. She has worked in several facets of the field including wellness, addictions, sports nutrition, weight loss and weight management with emphasis on eating disorders, addictions and disease management/prevention. In addition, Marjorie has spoken to a wide range of audiences, both professional and laypersons, about all related subjects. She has well-respected academic qualifications and a heartfelt passion for helping patients achieve nutritional balance.

 


Sara Oppenheim-Somerville, CHt

Hypnotherapist

Sara Oppenheim-Somerville, CHt , Consulting Hypnotist is a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists and the International Association of Counselors & Therapists. She uses traditional hypnosis along with Parts Therapy and Interactive Guided Imagery to help people who want to resolve specific issues or overcome fears or addictions. Sara has Medical Hypnosis experience and makes home visits for the Visiting Nurse Services in Westchester, working with their Pain & Palliative Care patients and is also their Tobacco Cessation Specialist. Sara is also a frequent speaker and workshop leader for hospitals, corporations and groups.

Jacob Pine, LMSW

Individual, Family and group psychotherapist

 

Jacob Pine specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, primarily utilizing psychodynamic, cognitive and solution focused therapies. Empowerment, respect and a patient centered approach permeate all treatment. He has clinical experience with individuals, families and groups.

 

Mr. Pine received his BA in music and political science from Johns Hopkins University and his MSW from Fordham University. He received his two-year post masters certificate and training from the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia (CSAB) at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in the Psychodynamic Treatment of Eating Disorders, where he is also a staff therapist. This training and subsequent clinical work included CBT and DBT in addition to the psychodynamic psychotherapies.

Alison Varianides, MSW, LCSW

Individual, Family and Group Psychotherapist 

 

Alison has extensive clinical experience working with adolescents, adults and families. Her experience includes working in both the Westchester and NYC Schools as a School Social Worker. She has also worked in substance abuse facilities and has lead workshops and groups for eating disorders, anger management, substance abuse prevention, suicide prevention, behavioral problems in adolescents, bullying, parental concerns and more.

 

Alison received her BA in Psychology at SUNY Albany and her Masters in Social Work from New York University as an LCU Fellow and Merit Scholar. Additionally, Alison received a Post Masters Advanced Certification in Working with Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders from CUNY Brooklyn. She is currently in the process of having her first social work practice book published by the NASW Press.
